Italian Islands

Italy’s islands, honestly reviewed.

Italian island ferries: the routes we index

Nobody in English covers Italian-island ferries cleanly. We do, and it is the site’s biggest editorial moat. This page indexes every route we have written a deep-dive for. Times are aliscafo (hydrofoil, passenger-only) where available, traghetto (car ferry) otherwise. Direct Ferries and Ferryhopper both let you compare operators; we link to whichever has the fuller inventory on that route.

Ferry routes, indexed honestly.

The most-searched routes to Italy’s most-visited islands. Times are aliscafo (hydrofoil) where available, traghetto (car ferry) otherwise. Direct Ferries and Ferryhopper both let you compare operators; we link to whichever has the fuller inventory on that route.

Reliability note: Aeolian, Egadi and Pontine aliscafi cancel on scirocco winds above force 5. Plan a buffer day between islands. Winter schedules drop to twice weekly on the smaller routes.

Ferry operators, briefly.

Snav. Bay of Naples aliscafi (Capri, Ischia, Procida). Fast, reliable, higher-priced.

Caremar. Bay of Naples traghetti (car ferries). Slower, cheaper, take a car.

Liberty Lines. Egadi and Aeolian aliscafi from Trapani and Milazzo.

Tirrenia. Overnight mainland-to-Sardinia traghetti (Genoa/Livorno/Civitavecchia).

Moby / Toremar. Piombino to Elba, plus Genoa/Livorno to Olbia routes.
